On January 3, 2024, the Society for the Analysis of Government and Economics (SAGE) hosted an online lecture entitled "How Can the Chinese Economy Safeguard its Energy Security? Europe's Recent Experience and Lessons." This lecture was presented by Christof RühlAdjunct Senior Research Scholar of the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). The webinar represented the tenth installment in SAGE's Lectures in Government and Economics Series.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Christof Rühl is a senior fellow at the Center for Global Energy Policy at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), where he engages in research focusing on oil, natural gas, and the energy transition. Dr. Rühl is an internationally renowned economist specializing in macroeconomics and energy economics. He also served as Global Head of Research at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), where he built and led ADIA's first global
research team that provided economic, energy and geopolitical analysis to the sovereign wealth fund.

Previously, Dr. Rühl spent nine years as Chief Economist and Vice President of British Petroleum, where he made significant contributions to research on global energy, climate change, and the relationship between energy and economic development, among other areas. Moreover, he has taken up positions at the World Bank, including as World Bank Chief Economist for Russia and Brazil, as well as working at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, later transitioning from his field of global economic policy into the business world. In addition, Dr. Rühl has published extensively in his field of research, including a large volume of scholarly articles.
